Plastic Surgery: Liposuction

Cosmetic Surgery in Thailand Suphanee, 25 and mother of one, undergoes liposuction and partial skin removal at Dr Thep Vechavisit's clinic. She will not be able to have any more children since her abdominal muscles were attached together. What is Liposuction?
Liposuction is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures in the USA. It is the only proven effective treatment capable of removing fat from localized deposits.

Liposuction uses suction to remove fat deposits in specific areas. The suction is provided by a vacuum-like device or sometimes by a large syringe called cannula. The suction device is inserted through a small incision in the body, and the surgeon sucks the fat out.
--
We are used to infomercials advertising how a machine can eliminate the tummy only or reduce the fat in the legs. This is not possible by exercise or diet or pills. We simply cannot at this time lose fat selectively, for example to lose fat from the tummy, but leave the breasts untouched. This happens because when we lose fat, our genes determine which fat goes away first. However, selective fat loss is possible with liposuction.
Liposuction can remove fat from many different areas of the body, including the thighs, hips, abdomen, buttocks, breasts, waist, upper arms, and neck.
What it takes?
There are a few options when it comes to liposuction. The doctor determines which type is best for each patient.

The surgery usually can be conducted under local, regional or general anesthesia. This depends on the type of liposuction technique used, the area to treat, the patients' pain tolerance and the amount of fat to extract.

The time of the surgery depends on the area treated and the amount of fat removed. The cost is also related to this. The surgery can last from 1 to 5 hours depending on how many areas are being treated. The cost varies by location. It can go from $1,500 to $4,000 per area. If many areas are treated, most doctors will have reduced prices.

It is a relatively simple surgery, but if a large amount of fat is being removed, it can be life threatening or present serious complications.

Liposuction usually does not require hospitalization and often is done in a physician's office or in an outpatient surgery center. Even if liposuction takes place in a hospital, you probably will be able to go home the same day unless a large amount of fat is removed.

Right after the surgery the patients are normally bruised and have some swelling. In a few weeks, the swelling goes away. Visible scars are usually not a problem in liposuction.
What are the expected results?
The results are a leaner body. You lose weight instantly only in the selected areas. When we lose weight sometimes we lose it in areas we do not want to, such as the breasts, and the most difficult fat to go away is in the areas we want to lose, such as the tummy. With liposuction or lipoplasty you will only lose it where you want to.

Liposuction is not normally an alternative to weight loss if you are overweight. But it offers a way to a smoother, trimmer body for those with extra pockets of fat that won't go away with weight loss or exercise.

Liposuction is not a solution for cellulite. It may improve it but it will not make it go away.

Plastic Surgery:Beautiful breast-Taking care of your breast

A beautiful bust is in part a gift of nature but also in part the care you take to protect it. Our breasts suffer from both environmental and internal conditions and as times passes the cumulative effect may result in flaccid and sagging breasts. There are things that we can do to protect our breasts.
The breast is primarily fat, breast tissue and the pectoral muscle, which gives it support. For these reasons, there are no exercises that can make your breasts grow larger or get firmer.

Because we accumulate fat in the breasts, it
increases in size if we gain weight and it goes down in size if we lose weight. At this time creams and preparations cannot give the same results as breast augmentation surgery.
The breast is obviously surrounded by skin. This skin is our natural bra. Maintaining elasticity and general health of this skin will make your breasts look better.
Some advice to keep your breast perky and firm
Body size changes. In other words, weight fluctuations. These are the worst enemies of the breasts. The breast size changes during our life because of hormonal changes, pregnancy or breast-feeding and gaining and losing weight can play havoc on how women look. Although hormonal changes are almost impossible to avoid, the weight changes can be avoided or at least minimized.
It is believed that the following tips can help us to maintain the beauty and firmness of our breast:
Keep a stable weight. The breasts will always lose volume if you lose fat, but it will lose even more volume if you lose too fast. This is enough reason to avoid crash diets and keep our weight stable.

Try to sleep on your back. This way you do not put too much weight on your breasts.

Plastic Surgery - Where Will It Occur

>

As you evaluate the best plastic surgeon option for your treatment, you might be surprised to learn the location of your surgery should be part of your determination.

Plastic Surgery - Where Will It Occur

The question of the location of your surgery probably never even occurred to you when you started thinking about having plastic surgery. If you are having plastic surgery, it must be done in a hospital, right? Actually, there are a wide variety of options and you need to understand them before making plastic surgeon evaluations. Much of the decision making process will depend on your comfort level with surgical procedures.

There are three options when it comes to the location of your surgery. The first is the traditional hospital setting. The second is a surgical center. The third is actually in the office of the surgeon. By far, the largest percentage of plastic surgery procedures occur in the offices of the surgeon.

Having your surgery done in a hospital is an excellent choice. First, it means your surgeon has hospital privileges, which means the hospital has evaluated the surgeon and found them to have a level of competency the hospital is comfortable with. Second, the hospital surgical process is highly regulated by government, which means you are going to get optimal care before, during and after the procedure.

A surgical center is a facility set up to handle a variety of surgical procedures. Hospitals only have so much space and there is rarely enough time available to handle all the surgeries scheduled in your city or town. The surgical center fills this gap. Much like a hospital, it is heavily regulated and the care is very good. To collect fees, the center must be certified by various government agencies, and the government agencies are sticklers for details like safety. Having your surgery in a surgical center is not indicative of any negative factor.

Many surgeons have surgical facilities built into their offices. Since they are expensive, you will usually find these facilities when there is a group of doctors providing surgical procedures. While there is nothing inherently wrong with this approach, you need to pay close attention to certifications.

Has the facility been certified by an independent group for safety and emergency procedures? The question is not so much whether it is safe for the surgical procedure you are undergoing, but whether the facility is equipped to handle any unexpected problems. Surgery is an invasion of the body and carries inherent risks. It is important that certifications for things such as life support be held by the office and by the nurses.

Having surgery in an office facility is very common and has its benefits. The office option is almost always cheaper than hospitalization or a surgical center. Still, we are talking about your body, so make sure to view the facility, ask for certifications and meet with the nurses. If you are not comfortable with any aspect of the facility, you are better off going with a surgeon who has hospital privileges or using a surgical center.

There are a lot of factors to consider. Make sure you don't leave out the issue of the location of the actual procedure.

Plastic surgery is a powerful weapon

The sun, stress and pollution can all contribute to imperfections in your skin. Fortunately, peel procedures can remove these imperfections and turn back the years.

Peel Away Those Damaged Outer Layers of Skin

As much as we like to believe otherwise, our daily lives show up on our body in one obvious place - the face. For men, the slightly weathered look can be an attractive option as can well groomed gray hair. For women, facial blemishes, wrinkles and uneven pigmentation can give rise to unhappiness on a big scale. Peels offer one option to counter the impact.

A facial peel is designed to restore the youthful look of your skin. It is not a form of facelift nor a surgery per se. Instead, it is a technique where the outer layer of your skin is literally peeled off to reveal new skin below. The technique can produce dynamite results when the goal is to resolve wrinkles and blemishes. It can also be used to addressed skin weathered from excessive exposure to the sun or which has developed uneven pigmentation. Importantly, a peel is not designed nor will it accomplish any kind of a lift for parts of the face that have developed a droop including eyelids. Such restorations require facelift surgery.

Unlike a surgical procedure, a peel is not for everyone. This is because the peel is only best for certain skin types and pigments. You should consult with a medical professional to find out if you are a candidate for the procedure. In general, however, individuals with fair skin and light damage gain the best benefits.

In general, a peel takes roughly one to two hours for the entire face. Some candidates require less extensive peels and less time is required as a result. You are not sedated unless there is reason specific to your situation.

Following the procedure, you are going to have some unique sensations. New skin is being exposed to air for the first time, so throbbing, tingling and so on can be common. Your medical professional can fill you on the impact based upon your specific skin condition and procedure.

Peels are a very common procedure. They can make a marked difference in appearance without the necessity of invasive surgery.

With today's image conscious shopper becoming more conscientious as a consumer, a line of vegetarian, or vegan, clothing and footwear has emerged. First there were cruelty-free cosmetics, which generally meant that the item had not been tested on animals and didn't contain any animal by-products. Consumers responded well to cruelty-free products and a demand for compassionate clothing soon followed and with it, a line of vegan, or vegetarian shoes.

Vegan shoes, simply put, are shoes that are made from non-animal materials. Traditionally, shoes are often made from leather, thus making it difficult for those following a vegan lifestyle to find footwear, which were cruelty-free.

Hemp is usually the most common material found in vegan shoes. It is strong, yet flexible, making it a great substitute for leather. Many shoe manufacturers have opted to use hemp for shoes and other products, which were traditionally only available in leather, such as wallets and knapsacks. Hemp is a very strong fiber, and unlike traditional textiles like cotton, it is stronger when wet. Other manufacturers use materials such as cotton, or other plant-derived textiles. Vegetan, a new synthetic material, is being used more frequently. It's look and feel is very similar to leather, but is completely free of animal products. It's waterproof, breathable, and scuff-resistant, making it the perfect choice for shoes.

Vegan shoes come in a variety of styles, ranging from boots to sandals. Many of these styles are made to be long-lasting and comfortable, especially if they are made using hemp. For example, hiking boots made from hemp are very durable, water-proof, and are usually as comfortable as their non-vegan counterparts. Athletic shoes are also usually made from hemp, although they can also be made from canvas as well.

There are more and more vegan products entering the marketplace, making it easy for vegetarians to find fashionable and affordable footwear, that fit in with their beliefs.

Butt augmentation: plastic surgery

Butt SurgeryJust like breast augmentation, there is butt augmentation plastic surgery.

With the recent popularity of the butt with Beyonce's bootylicious and Jennifer Lopez's mega butt, many women do not want their butts to be left behind.

Plastic surgery offers a solution to women who have a small butt or a flaccid butt.
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, "Plastic surgeons have adapted standard techniques and are developing new ones to address patients' desire for firmer, higher, rounder buttocks.

Plastic surgery to get a larger butt
Plastic surgeons have a couple of procedures to enlarge the butt. Among these are:

Fat transfer
One tried-and-true procedure, that is now being used to enhance gluteal contours, is an autologous fat injection. This is grafting fat from one body part to add volume to another. Usually the fat comes from the abdomen, hips, back or thighs. The fat cells are removed via lipoplasty (liposuction), and then injected in "layers" into the buttocks.

This procedure is relatively simple and since the fat is from your own body, it does not reject its own fat. The disadvantages of this technique are that the body re-absorbs the fat; therefore, it is difficult to predict how much fat the body will reabsorb and what will be the final size. Multiple procedures may be necessary to obtain the desired butt size. The fat removed can be stored for future procedures.

Butt Implants
Just like the breast implants, there are butt implants to increase size or to correct shape. This procedure is not used to correct saggy butts. The implants are made from silicone. The procedure is often performed by making an incision in the fold between the buttock "cheeks" and inserting a solid silicone implant into the pocket below the gluteus muscle and above the pelvic bone. The implants do not move. The procedure takes about an hour and a half and it uses general anesthesia.

Advantages of a butt implant plastic surgery:
On the positive side this procedure will give you a precise shape and size.

Disadvantages
As with all implants the body may reject them. They may also present all the problems associated with implants.
Some doctors prefer not to perform this procedure, because they think the results look unnatural.

The butt implants may feel too hard to touch, so even if you do not have scars, your partner may figure out that your butt is not a gift of nature.

The recovery period is long and can be problematic. As Doctor Jan Adams from the TV program "Plastic Surgery - Before and After" said, "You do not walk with your breasts." But you do use your butt to walk, sit, and sleep. Dr Adams was referring to the fact that butt implants have some unique challenges to heal during the recovery period. For instance, you cannot sleep on your back or sit for long periods of time, and that can make the whole process of recovery somewhat challenging for most women.

As with most implants, it is a life long commitment. You have to maintain a stable weight and you may need to change the implants after a 10-year period. Pregnancy may affect the original results as well.

This is a plastic surgery procedure and as such it may have the usual complications such as bleeding, infections, etc.

How much do butt implants cost?
Depending on where you live they can cost from $3,000 to $10,000. About $4,500 is more common.

According to ASAPS 2004 statistics, Americans had over 2,100 buttock augmentation procedures. There were nearly 11.9 million surgical and nonsurgical procedures performed, up 465% from 1997.

Breast augmentation Surgery (Augmentation Mammaplasty)

Breast Plastic SurgeryWhat is Breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation is a surgery in which implants are put under or over the pectoral muscle to enlarge a woman's breast size. At this point of time, it is the only proven way to enlarge the size of a woman's breasts.

In this surgery, the patient can select the size, shape, and texture of the implant. In some countries (and the US is not one of them), the patient can also select between silicone gel and saline implants.

What it takes?

There are many types of surgeries to put the implants in place. Press to read more on the procedures available. Depending on the procedure selected, the breast augmentation surgery can last from 1 to 2 hours. The doctor can use either local or general anesthesia.
Usually the procedure is performed at a plastic surgery clinic and not at a hospital.

The cost of the surgery depends on where you have the surgery and with whom. In large, expensive metropolitan areas such as New York or Los Angeles, it is more expensive than in inexpensive areas such as Nebraska. The general cost of living affects the cost of the surgery. Also, the prestige of the doctor affects the cost of the surgery and this is no place to look for bargains. Some plastic surgeons, who work with models and celebrities and get featured television and in the media, often charge higher fees for surgery. Read more on cost of breast augmentation surgery.

What will be the expected results of the breast augmentation surgery?
Obviously you will get larger breasts. In most cases, you will have both larger and perkier breasts. The skin is stretched to fit the implants and the areola looks larger in some cases. Depending on the type, shape, and size of the implants selected, it may look natural or even Playboy-model like.

How large should you go?
Your doctor and you will determine what is the best size for you. Some aspects to consider are:

Your lifestyle.
Do you need larger breasts? Some women might work as exotic dancers or models and they need large breast. But if you are a regular, busy mom, smaller sizes may be better. Same logic applies to a sporty person - large breasts may be an obstacle sometimes.

Your personality.
If you are having surgery, obviously you want large or larger breast. It is a long-life commitment, so you have to think about what you really want. This is your breast, not your boyfriend's, your mom's, your girlfriend's or your doctor's. This breast is going to be with you 24x7x365; in other words all the time. You will be the one buying bras and modeling your clothes. Since this is your breast, its size should be mostly your desired size.

The breast size is somehow affected by fashion. In the 80s and 90s, very large breasts were in vogue; that is not the case right now. So be careful not to go only with the fashion standards of the time, because they change very often.

Cost of breast augmentation surgery in the US
The average cost of a breast augmentation procedure in the USA is from $5,000 to $7,000

Plastic depression

A trial carried out by Dr. Eric Finzi and Dr. Erika Wasserman found that treating clinically depressed patients with botox on the frown lines of their faces actually got rid of their depression.

In their abstract report, found in the journal Dermatologic Surgery, the researchers indicate that major depression is a common and serious disease. Major depression is sometime resistant to drug therapy and psychotherapeutic treatment approaches.

In this trial, the researchers wanted to evaluate how effective Botulinim Toxin A treatment of glabellar frown lines might be for patients with major depression. They used a small open pilot trial.

They selected ten patients who had ongoing major depression despite drug and psychotherapeutic treatment. They were evaluated with the Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI-II) before receiving botox treatment on their frown lines.

Two months after the botox treatment, all ten patients were re-evaluated clinically and with the BDI-II.

Nine patients were no longer depressed two months after botox treatment on their frown lines. One patient experienced no improvement in mood.

The researchers concluded that botox treatment on frown lines may be an effective treatment for patients with major depression who have not responded to routine pharmacologic and psychotherapeutic treatment approaches.

If so, you should be certain that you choose a pair that can stand up to the challenge. Redwing boots are proven to be waterproof and insulated, to keep your feet warm and dry, when you are working outdoors. Some models even offer a degree of protection against electrical hazards, up to 600 volts. Other models will give you protection against punctures, withstanding up to 270 lbs of force. Redwing Boots also have the Comfort Force, which is a shock absorbing foot bed which promises the very best in comfort and extended wear.

If you want your boots to last you a long time, it's important that you know how to care for them. One of the simplest rules to follow is to keep your boots clean. They recommend that you wash your boots with warm water and a stiff brush. As the manufacturer states, 'Clean boots last longer.' 9.2 million cosmetic plastic surgery procedures in 2004 in USA, up 5% on previous year

Reality TV shows are creating a greater public awareness of cosmetic surgery and may attribute to the growth in procedures, however, these shows have not caused a rampant increase. The number of cosmetic plastic surgery procedures increased 5 percent in 2004, with more than 9.2 million procedures performed - a growth rate steady with that of the U.S. economy, according to statistics released today by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). New five-year trending data shows cosmetic procedures are up 24 percent from 2000, reports the ASPS.

“These statistics show a strong, continued, and healthy increase in cosmetic surgery that mirrors the 4.4 percent economic growth of the United States,” said ASPS President Scott Spear, MD. “However, there is no evidence in the statistics to support that TV programs have led to a dramatic surge in the amount of cosmetic surgery procedures.”

Surgical cosmetic procedures remained relatively stable in 2004, with more than 1.7 million procedures performed - down 2 percent from 2003. The top five surgical cosmetic procedures were liposuction (325,000), nose reshaping (305,000), breast augmentation (264,000), eyelid surgery (233,000), and facelift (114,000).

Minimally-invasive procedures increased 7 percent to nearly 7.5 million procedures performed in 2004. The top five minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures were Botox® (3 million), chemical peel (1.1 million), microdermabrasion (859,000), laser hair removal (574,000), and sclerotherapy (545,000).

The growth in minimally-invasive procedures can be attributed, in part, to new injectable wrinkle fighters entering the market. More consumers are considering injectables to prolong or avoid facelifts, forehead lifts and eyelid surgeries. In fact, the demand for hyaluronic acid injectable fillers like Restylane® and Hylaform® jumped 927 percent in 2004. Botox® injections increased 4 percent in 2004 and 280 percent since 2000.

To ensure plastic surgery procedures are not overstated, the ASPS has refined the methodology for its collection of statistics to offer more accurate, reliable, and realistic data on plastic surgery. Since 2003, statistics have been collected through the first online national database for plastic surgery procedures, Tracking Operations and Outcomes for Plastic Surgeons (TOPS). This data, combined with the annual survey sent to more than 17,000 board-certified physicians in specialties most likely to perform plastic surgery, results in the most comprehensive census on plastic surgery procedures.
